Call for Participants in the SYNS Pre-conference workshop for NetSci 2020:
This year’s SYNS Pre-NetSci event is structured around the writing process from an editorial perspective. In line with that theme, we’re lucky enough to have three editors from world-class journals to share their expertise over two days of interactive sessions in a “group table” setting. Participants will work together with peers and receive help from a volunteer mentor from the NetSci community who has been matched to the research areas of the participant group.
September 15: 15:00 – 18:00 (CEST) – Delivering Your Message: Tips on Paper Writing — Federico Levi (Nature) will lead a presentation about the process of writing scientific papers. We’ll discuss broad themes on how to structure a paper and its various parts, working from sentences up to sections. We’ll then dive into abstracts, discuss dos and don’ts on how to concisely convey the major themes of your paper. Working in small groups, we will work on implementing these lessons on an assigned piece of writing. Bring along your abstract!
September 16: 15:00 – 18:00 (CEST) – Mastering the Review Process : From the Editor’s Perspective – led by Serena Bradde (Physical Review E) and Dario Corradini (Physical Review X), this event is built around editing scientific work and will also feature a virtual “group table” setting with volunteer mentors helping attendees work together to edit a real recent submission to an APS journal, with feedback from the workshop leaders.
September 16: 18:30 – 21:00 (CEST) – SYNS Social: Virtual “Pub Crawl”—a chance to meet our fellow junior scientists, hang out virtually, and build the SYNS community.
